Known as the "Gingerbread City" and home to the magnificent Ellis County Courthouse, Waxahachie, Texas is perfectly located 26 miles south of Dallas and 42 miles east of Fort Worth. Waxahachie has preserved most of its historic buildings, both commercial and residential, and it boasts an impressive number of national, state, and locally designated properties. The Richardsonian-Romanesque Ellis County Courthouse was listed as one of the architectural wonders in the state of Texas and is touted as the most photographed courthouse in the state. It is the crown jewel of a vibrant downtown full of boutiques, antique stores, restaurants for every palate, and much more!
Also tagged as being "Picture Perfect", Waxahachie has a long history with film and television. Three Academy Award winning movies have been filmed here--Places in the Heart, A Trip to Bountiful, and Tender Mercies--as well as numerous other films and television shows.
Signature events include two yearly home tours--Gingerbread Trail in June and the Candlelight Home Tour in December--giving residents and visitors a peek into the beauty and charm of local landmarks. Bob Phillips, of Texas Country Reporter fame, hosts his annual festival in downtown Waxahachie the fourth Saturday in October. Bethlehem Revisited, named by Dallas' FOX news affiliate as one of the top holiday activities in the Metroplex, takes place the first two weekends in December.
