The Anice Read Fund
The Anice Read Fund of the Communities Foundation of Texas and the Texas Downtown Association was formed in 1999 to honor the legacy of Anice Read of Austin, Texas.
Anice Read
Mrs. Read was a beloved and passionate advocate for the historical preservation of Texas downtowns, believing them to be the lifeblood and true heart of a community. Mrs. Read was appointed to the Texas Historical Commission in 1968 and became the first director of the Texas Main Street Program, a THC division. During her tenure at the Texas Main Street Program, she worked directly with more than 100 Texas communities in restoring and revitalizing the historic fabric of their downtowns. Mrs. Read also founded and was actively involved in the Texas Downtown Association. Three years after her retirement, following a courageous battle with cancer, Mrs. Read passed away on November 30, 1999.
Grant Information
Grants from the Anice Read Fund are only available to members of the Texas Downtown Association and must have a downtown element to be eligible. Grant amounts range from $500 to $5,000 and are awarded on an annual basis. In an attempt to meet the needs of our members, grants may be used for a variety of purposes including physical projects, professional development, and/or program development.
Anice Read Fund Cookbook
The Texas Downtown Association is compiling recipes for inclusion in the Anice Read Fund Cookbook. All profits generated from sales of the cookbook will be donated to the Anice Read Fund to support downtown projects across the state. This is a great way to highlight all of our great Texas cities and towns. Recipes featuring famous local eateries or ingredients associated with a certain region of the State are highly encouraged. We will be including the “Main Street Cake” recipe in a special section. Download and complete the Recipe Collection Sheet below and forward to Frieda Hanley, Decatur Main Street, via fax (940.627.6394) or email ().
